Do I need an appointment to get Plan B? I want to get it just as a precaution. What would an appointment entail?
You can now purchase Plan B, or emergency contraception, without a prescription if you are 18 years or older. For individuals under the age of 18 years, a prescription is still required. In order to get a prescription you will need to schedule an appointment. If you are a U of I student taking more than 4 hours and have paid your health fee, the physician visit is free. This appointment would provide a good opportunity for you to ask questions and discuss any concerns you may have.
Whether you buy Plan B over the counter or by prescription, you can always schedule a visit with one of our physicians even if you just want to talk about it.
You may purchase Plan B without a prescription at most pharmacies. Westlawn Pharmacy (located at Student Health) has the over-the-counter product for $32/pack.
